About the Waterbury Land Initiative, Inc. (WLI)

Mission

The mission of the Waterbury Land Initiative, Inc. ("WLI") is to lead, support, and assist in the conservation and protection of Waterbury and Waterbury-area land in order to protect and improve Waterbury's outdoor recreation, agriculture, cultural, wildlife habitat and water resources in a manner that will support and enhance the social and economic vitality of Waterbury while maintaining ecological functions. 

To fulfill its mission, WLI works with community members, partnering organizations, government agencies, non-governmental agencies (NGOs), the Town of Waterbury, Vermont to plan, implement and provide support for conservation activities within and around Waterbury, Vermont.



About WLI

In 2018 a group of Waterbury residents joined together and created the Waterbury Land Initiative, Inc. (“WLI”) to lead, support, and assist in the protection of local green spaces, working resource lands and other areas of high conservation value in the Waterbury area, for the benefit of all. Through its work, WLI aims to protect and improve the region’s outdoor recreation opportunities, agriculture, culture, wildlife habitat, and water resources in a manner that will support the social and economic vitality of Waterbury while maintaining ecological functions in perpetuity.  

WLI believes that the local residents are key to its mission and that its projects can inspire and unite the community.  Working with community members, partnering organizations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and the Town of Waterbury, WLI plans, implements, and provides support for conservation activities.  Using easements, leases, land ownership and other conservation arrangements, WLI will collaborate with willing land owners, to protect lands that provide resources vital to the Waterbury Community and Contribute to Waterbury’s ecologic and economic sustainability.   

WLI is a local non-profit 501(c)(3) land conservation organization based in Waterbury, Vermont with an all-volunteer Board of Directors, all current or former residents of Waterbury or those presently employed in Waterbury.  WLI's employer identification number, for charitable contributions, is EIN 87-3375290.
